UGI Utilities Given 2025 Ruby Payne Cook Award

UGI Utilities has been named the recipient of the 2025 Ruby Payne Cook Award for Community Service by the Crispus Attucks Community Center. UGI employees were presented with the award at the organization’s 37th-annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast. UGI has a multi-faceted partnership with Crispus Attucks that spans several years. In addition to financial support to the community center, employees have supported the efforts of Crispus Attucks through supply donations and volunteerism.

While volunteering at Crispus Attucks Community Center’s food pantry, volunteers noticed a need for more carts to assist visitors in carrying their groceries. Visitors to the pantry were making tough decisions about what food they were taking based on what they could carry. UGI made a donation to the organization so more carts could be purchased.

Employees in UGI’s Lancaster office also support Crispus Attucks Community Center each year through an annual school supply collection.

“I grew up in the area and recognize how important it is for students to be equipped with the tools they need to start the school year prepared,” says UGI employee Kizzy J., who spearheaded the collection and accepted the award on UGI’s behalf.

UGI Utilities is also proud to support the organization’s efforts through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit program.

Crispus Attucks Community Center is a program of Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County that supports youth and families in Lancaster by providing community services and cultural programs that preserve the African American heritage. Ruby Payne Cook served for nearly 30 years as the first Executive Director of Crispus Attucks Community Center. This award was established in memory of her commitment and dedication to the center and the African America community. It is given annually to those who have dedicated their time and energy to serving the center and surrounding community.
