We Are UGI: Committed to Damage Prevention

04 Oct 2022

Over the spring and summer, UGI’s Pipeline and Public Safety Team attended multiple “Touch a Truck” events to help spread the word about natural gas safety and calling 811 before you dig.

Touch a Truck events allow children to become familiar with careers in the construction and energy industries, as well as first response, by allowing an opportunity to explore trucks, tractors, emergency vehicles, heavy machinery, and interact with people who operate these vehicles and work in our communities.

“I really enjoy attending these events and interacting directly with the community,” said Janet Toporcer, UGI Pipeline and Public Safety Team member. “People see our bright yellow tent and come over to talk to us. We ask them if they know what 811 is, and if they know, they’re excited to tell us. If they don’t know, we explain what it is, and they walk away learning something new. That to me could mean a potential underground pipeline damage incident is avoided, and that helps to keep the public and our employees safe.”

UGI participates in several Touch a Truck events throughout our service territory each year, providing an opportunity to share important safety information with members of the community, including the importance of safe digging.
