We Are UGI: Supporting the Westfield Community

08 Oct 2024

Following Hurricane Debby in early August, the Westfield, PA, community experienced devastating flooding leaving many without housing, clothing, and food.

The First Baptist Church of Westfield began efforts to help their community through the Westfield Community Support Initiative, in which they worked in tandem with the American Red Cross. Employees in UGI’s Wellsboro, Troy, and Port Allegany offices provided support to the initiative by volunteering to cook and serve lunch to community members.

“I volunteered to help with this activity to help in some small way to support their small community. They suffered such loss due to the flooding. To be able to give a little bit of my time to help prepare and serve food to people that had lost everything was just the right thing to do,” says UGI volunteer Marie O.

In addition to this volunteer effort, an employee from UGI’s Troy office, Tyler S., played a part in supporting the Westfield community through his volunteer efforts with the South Creek Volunteer Fire Department. During the flooding, South Creek Volunteer Fire Department assisted the Crary Hose Company 5 in Westfield by staffing their station to ensure quick responses to the community while the Crary Hose Company mitigated the damage suffered by the flooding.

Our field employees who live and work in the Westfield area also responded to community needs during the flooding, ensuring the continued safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to the community.

UGI Utilities is proud of our employees who spring into action when our neighbors are in need.
