Tips for A Safe and Less Stressed 2025
08 Jan 2025
Set yourself up for a safer and less stressed year with the following tips:
Review emergency and evacuation plans with household members.
- Like other types of emergencies, you should also have an action plan for a natural gas emergency in your home. UGI Utilities encourages everyone to build a plan, know the plan, and be prepared to act. If you smell gas, act fast! If you smell rotten eggs, it may be a natural gas leak. Leave the area immediately and get at least the length of a football field away. Only when you are a safe distance away, call 911 or UGI at 800-276-2722 to report the leak. - A malfunctioning appliance or blocked chimney can cause a carbon monoxide (CO) build-up in your home. Signs of CO build-up include condensation on windows, headaches, dizziness, flu-like symptoms, and nausea. If you suspect CO poisoning, move to fresh air immediately and call 911 or UGI at 800-276-2722. Learn more about CO at https://www.ugi.com/natural-gas-safety/carbon-monoxide/.
- Check that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly and have fresh batteries. Detectors should be located on every floor of your home and in each bedroom. Natural gas detectors can also be purchased for an extra layer of safety.
Ensure your system is running safely and effectively.
- To help prevent CO poisoning, have your heating system professionally cleaned and serviced each year to make sure it is running properly. Make sure your chimney and exhaust flue are clear and in good condition. Also, be sure to clean and replace filters regularly, which can also have a significant impact on your energy costs and air quality.
Make paying your bill easier.
- UGI offers a number of options to help customers pay their bill with ease. Never be late on a payment again with AutoPay. Through AutoPay, your bank will transfer the exact amount of your monthly bill from the bank account you designate on the due date of the bill. - If your usage varies widely from month to month or seasonally, you might benefit from using Budget Billing, which spreads your UGI costs evenly throughout the year. Learn more about Budget Billing at https://www.ugi.com/payments-billing/budget-billing/.

Consider how you can implement energy efficiency in your home.
- Lower your bill by using less energy. Seal air leaks around windows, doors, pipes, and electrical outlets to cut down on loss of heat. Also, make sure your vents are clear of obstructions, or your heating system will have to work harder to heat your home. For more energy saving tips, visit https://www.ugi.com/energy-saving-tips/.
- Upgrade to a more energy-efficient system. UGI’s Save Smart energy efficiency and conservation program offers customers a variety of rebates to help you save all year long. Learn more at https://www.ugi.com/rebatesavailable.
