We Are UGI: National Mentoring Month

20 Jan 2025

January is National Mentoring Month! Mentoring programs have been proven to improve academic performance, reduce risky behaviors, and improve social-emotional competencies.

UGI Utilities is proud to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central Pennsylvania to bring the Beyond School Walls program to UGI’s headquarters in Denver, PA.

The Beyond School Walls program matches high school students with professionals from regional businesses, trades, and higher education. Through the program, students build confidence, explore career opportunities, develop professional skills, and interact with classmates in a real-world office setting.

Students from Cocalico High School were matched one-to-one with a UGI employee and meet twice a month at our headquarters for the duration of the school year. Through activities led by Big Brothers Big Sisters, students in the program have contemplated their life journeys and goals, practiced elevator pitches, created a budget based off average salaries in their desired field, and learned about saving and investing money.

“I have really enjoyed meeting each of the student mentees and working through the different activities facilitated by Big Brothers Big Sisters,” said UGI employee mentor Todd D. “They all seem very engaged, and it is so worthwhile to observe them gaining a broader understanding of real life phases they will surely experience outside of school. I also appreciate that they provide a different perspective on critical thinking to these situations.  It is definitely a growth opportunity for both mentee and mentor.”

Thanks to our UGI mentors for making this program a success and helping to Fuel Our Future!
