UGI Conducts 2025 Summer Storm Drill to Prepare for Severe Weather

16 Jul 2025

Before summer storms began arriving in UGI’s service area, the UGI Electric team again conducted a storm drill to simulate a large outage response.

The annual drill includes both field exercises of simulated hazards throughout the electric service area, followed by a sit-down review. In the field, team members find photos of wires down, pole fires, or broken poles. Once they find the hazard clue, they make decisions on resources needed to protect the public, minimize outages, and restore power.

“This is about our team being ready before severe weather hits. When we do these drills, we make decisions as if we were in a real-time storm event,” says Bruce Graybill, UGI’s Emergency Planning Administrator. “This includes identifying the repairs needed and dispatching the crews to fix them.”

UGI serves nearly 63,000 electric customers in parts of Luzerne and Wyoming Counties.
