Be Aware of Utility Imposters and Phone Scams

23 Oct 2025

Every day, electric and natural gas customers are targeted by utility scams. These imposters typically target customers online, in-person, and by telephone. Protect yourself with these tips:

When You Need UGI, 800-276-2722 is the Only Number to Call

  • UGI has been alerted that sponsored online ads created by scammers are tricking people into calling the wrong number when they need help.
  • UGI customers who receive calls or emails stating that the customer owes money for their energy bill and that non-payment will result in having their service shut off immediately should not provide any information in response and contact UGI at 800-276-2722.
  • In some cases, customers called the scam phone numbers to report the smell of gas and were tricked into thinking they must pay someone to investigate a possible leak. There is never a cost to the customer for UGI to investigate a potential leak.

Ask For Identification

  • All UGI employees carry photo ID cards that display the company logo along with their name, photo, and employee number.
  • If you are suspicious about a person’s ID or activities, do not allow that person into your home. Call UGI immediately at 800-276-2722 so UGI can verify the visit, or call 911 if you feel threatened.

Lookout For Impostors

  • UGI does not routinely do any work unannounced late in the evening except for a customer-requested appointment or legitimate gas emergency.
  • Meter reading is performed on a scheduled date, as noted on your monthly bill, typically within the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
