Colder Temperatures Lead to Millions of Dollars in Customer Credits
05 Mar 2026
As temperatures dropped below normal, and natural gas usage increased, UGI customers received more than $27.6 million in bill credits as part of the Weather Normalization Adjustment. The credit total is from October through February.
What is WNA?
The Weather Normalization Adjustment, or WNA, is used by some utility companies to have more predictable, steady revenue. For UGI, this allows the company to more easily budget for its efforts to maintain safe and dependable natural gas service.
Distribution charges are established assuming customers will use natural gas based on normal weather. A 15-year average is used to calculate normal weather, but actual weather changes each bill period. When it’s colder or warmer than normal, customers use more or less natural gas than expected. But the cost to maintain utility pipes and equipment stays the same.
How Does WNA Affect Customer Bills?
WNA can impact customer bills from October through April. When weather is within 3% of the 15-year average, customers will not see an impact. When weather is more than 3% warmer, they will see a charge. When weather is more than 3% colder, they will see a credit.
Customers can see the WNA on their bills under the “Current Bill Information” section.
