UGI Provides Increased Safety Outreach to Largest Customers

02 Jul 2024

UGI’s already well-established mission of safe and reliable service is expanding with a new message: Smell Gas? Act Fast!

This safety message is now arriving at many of UGI’s largest commercial and industrial customers in the form of a new safety kit. The kit includes a natural gas safety video for companies to share with their employees.

The video, recorded at UGI’s Learning Center, covers both natural gas emergency prevention tips and how to respond in the event of a real emergency. The safety kits also include resources to help companies build natural gas safety into their emergency action and preparedness plans, and workplace signage to keep the Smell Gas? Act Fast! message front and center.

The kits include posters that provide gas safety information in English and Spanish.

The purpose of this safety message is to educate customers and the community about natural gas, including what it smells like, and the correct actions to take if you think you smell it: including the evacuation guidance of getting at least the length of a football field away. You should not turn on or off electronics, or use a cell phone, on the way out of a building. Only when you are a safe distance away should you call 911 or UGI at 800-276-2722.

This month, UGI began delivering the kits to its largest customers including The Giorgi Mushroom Company and battery maker East Penn Manufacturing. Both companies are using the kits’ contents, prepared in both English and Spanish, to increase awareness of natural gas safety within their facilities and among their employees.

This increased outreach, including the video and other safety resources, is available to all customers now at www.UGI.com/BeSafe.
