UGI Ready to Fuel New CANPACK Manufacturing Facility

UGI continues to help Pennsylvania communities attract new businesses and good-paying jobs thanks to affordable, clean and reliable natural gas. CANPACK Group’s new facility in Olyphant Borough, Lackawanna County, is one of the latest examples.
CANPACK is an international manufacturer of aluminum and steel cans and glass bottles for the food and beverage sector. CANPACK is redeveloping a former brownfield site in its construction of a 908,000-square-foot aluminum can manufacturing facility and North American Center of Excellence. Their new northeast Pennsylvania location is the company’s first U.S. facility.
The new facility is a nearly $366 million project and has already created a hundred jobs with another 300 jobs projected. The facility is expected to be fully operational later this year.
UGI Utilities is providing natural gas service to the facility. To serve CANPACK, UGI installed 200 feet of new 8-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe and associated meter equipment.
“It was exciting to work with the CANPACK team on this project,” UGI Relationship Manager Joe Bauman said. “Our communities and economy enjoy many benefits as a result of UGI adding new large customers like CANPACK.“
