UGI Serves H&K Group, Inc.’s New Easton Asphalt Facility

UGI Utilities is fueling H&K Group, Inc.’s (H&K’s) newest and most innovative asphalt facility, located adjacent to H&K’s Easton Quarry in Lower Mount Bethel Township, eastern Northampton County. H&K’s Easton Asphalt facility opened this month and replaces the company’s older and smaller facility that was in service for nearly three decades.
H&K’s new installation is a multi-million-dollar project and more than doubles the prior plant’s production and storage capacity. Specifically, it features a 400 ton-per-hour production capability, three 300-ton storage silos, an on-site laboratory, and a fully redesigned traffic/infrastructure flow pattern.
UGI worked with H&K to upgrade the location’s natural gas infrastructure as the new facility will roughly double H&K’s natural gas consumption. H&K primarily uses natural gas for heating aggregate during the asphalt production process, as well as for heating the material while in the storage silos.
“Our new Easton Asphalt facility was many years in the making and we appreciate UGI’s support in its development,” H&K Group’s Scott Taylor said. “Moreover, during the infrastructure upgrade, we’re grateful for UGI’s ability to install the new plant’s service lines without interrupting service to our prior plant.”
Taylor added that Easton Asphalt is part of a network of 19 asphalt plants that H&K operates across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. “Natural gas is our fuel of choice due to its environmental benefits and affordability,” Taylor added.
