We Are UGI: Distributing Food to Our Community
01 Dec 2023
Food and the holidays go hand-in-hand. As the holidays approach, excitement is high for enjoying cherished family recipes, gathering with loved ones over a shared meal, and indulging in our favorite treats. However, many of our neighbors struggle to find affordable food not only during the holidays, but throughout the entire year. UGI believes access to affordable food is crucial for a strong community and we are dedicated to supporting food security throughout our service territory.
UGI Utilities employees recently volunteered with New Journey Community Outreach to distribute groceries to 356 families in Reading. New Journey Community Outreach is committed to restoring hope, comfort, and dignity by feeding, clothing, and supporting those in need in the Reading area. The organization provides essential food and clothing services through weekly food distributions, a daily lunch program, and a clothing center.
“Many thanks to UGI for allowing our team the opportunity to volunteer at the New Journey Community Outreach food distribution event in November 2023. I enjoyed working as a team to unload the Helping Harvest food trucks and organize the cases of food for distribution to over 350 families from the downtown Reading area. Each time I participate in an event like this one, I’m reminded of how even small efforts can make a big impact in our community,” says UGI employee volunteer, Michelle Burns (far left).
UGI is proud of employees, such as Michelle, who get involved in their community to help those in need.
