What does 94+ AFUE mean?
AFUE stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency and is used to measure how much of your fuel the appliance converts into usable heat. A 94 AFUE converts a full 94% of your fuel into usable heat. For this rebate, UGI accepts a boiler that is 94% or higher (94+). The higher the AFUE, the higher the efficiency because less gas is lost in the heating process.
Higher Efficiency Boiler Features Can Include:
- electronic ignition, which eliminates the need to have the pilot light burning all the time
- new combustion technologies that extract more heat from the same amount of fuel
- sealed combustion that uses outside air to fuel the burner, reducing drafts and improving safety

Boilers vs. Furnaces
The difference between a boiler and a furnace is that a furnace uses forced air through ducts to heat your home while a boiler heats water and pumps it through baseboard radiators or radiant floor systems throughout the home.
